‘LIVEwire at Seven Arts’ No.3
Our quarterly ‘LIVEwire at Seven Arts’ night returns to Leeds on 13 September with another stunning line-up for you. We’re delighted to welcome Nafeesa Hamid and Gemma Baker to Seven Arts, with Matt Abbott on hosting duties and open mic performers as usual.
The Facebook event is here. Please note that doors are 7pm for a 7.30pm start, and the event operates with a Pay As You Feel (#PAYF) policy. Our suggested donation is £10 per person, and there will be plenty of opportunities to put money in the jar throughout the event!
Nafeesa Hamid is a British Pakistani poet and playwright based in Birmingham. She has been writing and performing for 6 years at nights around the UK, featuring at nights such as Out-Spoken, Poetry is Dead Good, Find The Right Words and Hit the Ode.
Nafeesa has also performed at Cheltenham and Manchester Lit Fests as part of The Things I Would Tell You: British Muslim Women Write, a 2017 anthology edited by Sabrina Mahfouz (Saqi Books). Her debut poetry collection ‘Besharam’ has been published with Verve (2018).
Gemma Baker has performed at events around the UK, and competed in national competitions such as the BBC Edinburgh Slam, and Poetry Rivals. She has been published in several anthologies, featured in The Guardian and been commissioned by the BBC.
Matt Abbott is a rising star on the UK’s spoken word scene. His debut collection ‘Two Little Ducks’ (Verve) accompanies a 22-date UK tour this autumn, with a show that received 5* reviews at last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He is the founder of N&T.
The quarterly #LIVEwire night has so far featured sets from Maria Ferguson, Toria Garbutt, Cecilia Knapp and Louise Fazackerley, and looks to bridge the geographical divide on the UK scene. Open mic slots can be reserved by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
