Last week, we announced our LIVEwire x Lockdown project. This has been months of hard work behind the scenes and it’s awesome to finally see it out in the world. The project culminated in last night online première event, followed by the four singles being released through our Bandcamp site today.
Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan delivered workshops for refugees and asylum seekers. She then collaborated with artist Alaa Alsaraji to create this stunning time-lapsed illustrated video.
Saili Katebe delivered workshops for writers of colour. He then collaborated with movement practitioner Deepraj Singh to devise this beautiful piece, which was shot by Dan Martin and features music by David J Gledhill.
Kirsty Taylor delivered workshops for care experienced young people. She then collaborated with music producer SOULS to create this awesome track, with a photograph by John Bolloten used for the video.
Sean Mahoney delivered workshops for boxers and boxing enthusiasts. He then collaborated with artist Sadie St. Hilaire who illustrated his photographs, and worked on the soundscape with producer Gabriel Jones.
The online première event was broadcast live on our Facebook page on Thursday 10 December and is available to stream back in full below. Huge thanks to Arts Council England for making this project possible and to everybody who’s supported it so far!

LIVEwire Birmingham took place at The Hippodrome on Saturday 22 February, as part of Verve Poetry & Spoken Word Festival. We had sets from Salena Godden, oakley, Toria Garbutt and Saili Katebe, with Matt Abbott on hosting duties.
These video highlights were filmed and edited by Verse First. Huge thanks to Verve for having us, and to everybody that came along and made it such a special night. Next stop, Essex…
Huge thanks also to Thom Bartley for these photos.
Our first regional shows in Manchester and Bristol were two of the best events that we’ve ever run, and I’ve no doubt that Birmingham will be just as good. After a showcase in 2018, we’re returning to Verve Poetry Festival – and this time it’s at the Hippodrome. Tickets are on sale here.Continue reading “LIVEwire Birmingham | Salena Godden & Co. on 22 Feb”
