LIVEwire Birmingham took place at The Hippodrome on Saturday 22 February, as part of Verve Poetry & Spoken Word Festival. We had sets from Salena Godden, oakley, Toria Garbutt and Saili Katebe, with Matt Abbott on hosting duties.

These video highlights were filmed and edited by Verse First. Huge thanks to Verve for having us, and to everybody that came along and made it such a special night. Next stop, Essex…

Our first regional shows in Manchester and Bristol were two of the best events that we’ve ever run, and I’ve no doubt that Birmingham will be just as good. After a showcase in 2018, we’re returning to Verve Poetry Festival – and this time it’s at the Hippodrome. Tickets are on sale here.

Our second regional ‘LIVEwire’ event saw us team up with Raise The Bar to put on a storming night at Arnolfini. Sets from Salena Godden, Jess Green and Kevin P. Gilday made a truly amazing night, as captured by Alex Sheppard in these photos.

We’ve also got this brilliant highlights video, courtesy of Raise The Bar! The video is available to view on our YouTube channel (embedded below) as well as our Facebook page, IGTV channel and Twitter account, so please give it a share. Ta.

As part of a project with BBC Arts, Salena Godden responded to one of the internet’s most asked questions: ‘is there anybody out there?’

The video was filmed in a storage warehouse and deserted space in East London, with Salena exploring what it might be like “round the back of the internet”. You can watch the video here.

The project also involved teaming up with Google Arts & Culture. There’s an interview and some ace pics on their dedicated page. Have a butcher’s!

The first of our ‘LIVEwire’ Leeds residency nights took place at Hyde Park Book Club on 2 October, with Salena Godden and Nafeesa Hamid going down a storm in West Yorkshire. The start of the event was delayed as we had to bring about 20 extra chairs down to accommodate everybody, and Matt Abbott was on hosting duties, including open mic.

As well as the video highlights from Idle Work Factory, they’ve also taken some ace photos (below). Huge thanks to our open mic performers: Lence, Sally Anne Earl, Claire Crossdale, Tahira Alia Rehman, Joe Williams, Natalie Davies and Camille McCawley.

Our next ‘LIVEwire’ Leeds event stars Joelle Taylor and Ollie O’Neill on Wednesday 4 December, and tickets are on sale here.
