Sean Mahoney is a writer, performer and producer from North London. He’s been performing poetry since 2011: appearing on Channel 4’s Random Acts; winning Literary Death Match in London and Dublin; and featuring at Bang! Said the Gun, Chill Pill and festivals around the UK.

He co-founded Boxedin – a spoken word night that’s been running for six years at Boxpark in Shoreditch. His critically acclaimed show ‘Until You Hear That Bell’ had fine London runs, was part of Summerhall’s Edinburgh Fringe programme in 2018 and toured boxing gyms across the country: working with young boxers and older trainers to write about their experiences.

“His writing is nimble and light-footed, full of little asides. It’s funny – he has great timing – but he’s also created a piece with weight and range.” The Stage on Until You Hear That Bell

Sean’s latest project ‘See You When I Get There‘ is an audio series looking at someone in transit. It’s testament to his remarkable flexibility as a writer across a range of mediums, and paints beautiful pictures of love, pain, finding your way and getting lost.

Nymphs & Thugs are delighted to be have signed Sean to the label as part of the ‘LIVEwire x Lockdown’ project. This saw Sean delivering free online poetry workshops for boxers and boxing enthusiasts. We then commissioned Sean to write his ‘A Vulnerable Area’ poem in response to this group and commissioned artist Sadie St. Hilaire to draw an illustration accompany the poem.

“The different segments of this story sit together side-by-side without really telling us why they’re there. They feel evenly weighted, quietly balanced. Mahoney helps us feel how different elements can sit beside each other, exerting their mass without intruding.” Exeunt on Back of the Head
